"Hurt Locker" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" actor Anthony Mackie is in negotiations to star in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," the April 2014 superhero flick starring Chris Evans as the titular star-spangled superhero. If casting pans out, Mackie will play Sam Wilson, the superhero best known as the Falcon, Heat Vision reports.

In the comics, Falcon is a longtime friend and partner of Captain America's. As his befitting of his codename, Falcon can communicate with birds telepathically, and he also wears a suit that allows him to fly. He's been a pal of Cap's since comics published in the 1970s, and has recently played a big role in the espionage-heavy stories told in Ed Brubaker's current run on "Captain America" for Marvel Comics.
Mackie's potential casting as Falcon comes just weeks after the actor gave an interview expressing his desire to play Black Panther in a Marvel movie.
"I love Black Panther and I love the story behind it. It would be cool to be a part of it," he said. He told another outlet: "If Black Panther is made into a movie, I would love for it to be along the lines of Batman."
It's not Black Panther, but Falcon is still a great get for the promising young actor. Between confirmation of the Winter Soldier, the strongly implied presence of Black Widow and now Falcon's involvement as well, the "Captain America" sequel is filling itself out with enough superheroes to make "The Avengers" jealous. And who knows? Perhaps it'll be a "Hurt Locker" reunion for Mackie as well, if Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye gets in on the action as has been rumored.
